Editorial: Christmas in Gaming

The day this editorial is being published is Christmas Eve, a day known for being the day before that really cool holiday where people give and receive gifts. In honor of Christmas, this editorial is all about recognizing video games that contain the elusive Christmas spirit.

Interrogations have never looked more festive.

Look at those decorations, they are fantastic!

Batman: Arkham Origins is a prequel story in the “Batman: Arkham” series, and received mixed reviews upon on its release. However, what reviewers failed to realize was that it incorporates Christmas into its plot, which means it should have actually received perfect scores across the board for achieving such a noble goal despite its numerous glitches and overall mediocre quality. In fact, the entire story of Batman: Arkham Origins takes place on Christmas Eve when Black Mask (who is actually the Joker in disguise) places a bounty upon Batman’s head for fifty million dollars. So, Batman ends up having to face eight different assassins while also having to deal with the Joker’s grand plan. Meanwhile, in the Batcave, all Alfred wants to do is have dinner with Master Bruce, but instead he nearly dies because life is suffering. Although the game’s overall atmosphere is not bright or cheery, the Christmas theme does make its way into locations and visuals such as bombs within Christmas present-esque boxes, making it what the kids would call “alright.”

All hail the new snowman overlord, may his rule be prosperous!

Although his eyes are filled with evil, his soul means well.

On the other side of the spectrum, Banjo-Kazooie, a beloved game by many, includes an entire world dedicated to Christmas, chock full of delightful scenery and lively characters to entertain players. The world is known as Freezeezy Peak and it includes larger than life Christmas trees alongside a gigantic snowman and some smaller snowmen which are actually enemies. Although some games such as New Super Mario Bros. U may have non-specific ice worlds, Banjo-Kazooie takes it up a notch with a world that feels like it came straight out of a Christmas special.

Most who purchase this game are unable to finish as the visuals are too awe-inspiring to fully take in.

Christmas is one of the best holidays for video games because parents can buy children video games and they have to play it no matter how bad it is!

Last up is the Christmas classic released solely on the Microsoft Xbox, 9 Holes of Xmas: Outlaw Golf . When gamers think perfection, games such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time come to mind, or more recently Undertale keeping in mind that the view of gamers does not necessarily represent the views of Lusipurr.com. However, seldom do they remember this game, a true classic in every sense of the world, belonging to the “Outlaw” series of video games developed by Hypnotix, Inc. known for other classics such as Deer Avenger 4: The Rednecks Strike Back. This game manages to incorporate the beauty of Christmas into a riveting game of golf with gameplay that can only be described as revolutionary. As players miss shots or take too many, their confidence decreases thus making their shots more and more inaccurate. However, this confidence can be brought right back up by either making great shots or by beating the snot out of the player’s caddy. Of course, most if not all of the landscape is white so the golf ball itself has to be red and the scenery is barely distinguishable but it only adds to the Christmas experience those hold so close to their hearts. Truth be told, 9 Holes of Xmas: Outlaw Golf , might not only be one of the greatest games ever made, but one of the purest forms of art rivaling the likeness of the ultimately overrated “Mona Lisa.”

Are you not going to mention Frozen being the ultimate non-Christmas Christmas movie?

I would fist-fight Elsa before I let her take that coveted title away from Tootsie, an american classic.
