PopCap Gamers announced today the launch of an all new Bejeweled adaptation as well as a new “freemium” edition of Bejeweled Blitz for the iPhone and iPod touch.
With the launch of these new titles PopCap plans to retire Bejeweled 2 to make way for the next generation of the land mark franchise. Mobile gamers can purchase the new Bejeweled title from the Apple App store for one dollar, alternatively they can download Bejeweled Blitz for no cost. The all-new Bejeweled will feature new high-res graphic and retina display support, three game modes: Classic, Zen, and Diamond Mine, in-game leader boards, and seven achievement badges plus three elite badges. Bejeweled Blitz will offer 60 second game action just as it did in the original Bejeweled titles along with, an entirely new user-interface, “The Daily Spin” where players can test their luck and try to get bonus coins, retina display support, full Facebook integration, and online leaderboards.
“With nearly 40 million mobile units sold over the past eight years, Bejeweled is the second best-selling mobile game of all time, behind only Tetris,” noted Giordano Bruno Contestabile, Bejeweled franchise Business Director at PopCap Games. “As we strive to reach virtually everyone with a mobile communications device, PopCap will continue to make games that are even more accessible to that ever-expanding global audience. We’re taking a critical step toward this goal with the introduction of these new Bejeweled titles that will enhance our offerings on the iPhone for years to come.”
