On August 3rd, the consulting firm Orbit Media Group, LLC announced a partnership with the global charity Starlight Children’s Foundation. This partnership will see Orbit donating a percentage of its profits of the new iOS App Cowboys & Aliens: The Kids. Starlight will use these funds to forward their cause of aiding seriously ill children. In order to create the App, Orbit needed permission from Platinum Studios, whose CEO Scott Mitchell Rosenberg created the original Cowboys & Aliens graphic novel.
Cowboys & Aliens: The Kids shares little more than the name with the graphic novel and movie, featuring an original story about trio of children (one cowboy, one Native-American, and one alien) who become friends while playing with toys. It is presented as an interactive storybook, featuring voiced narration and character customization. The App is currently available for all Apple iOS devices for $4.99. An Android version is on its way.
The founder of Orbit, Chris Adams, had previously helped create Participant Media, the company behind An Inconvenient Truth and Syriana. Due to Participant’s model of advancing social causes through their content, a partnership like this was inevitable.
Starlight Children’s Foundation, a nearly thirty-year-old charity organization, is dedicated to assisting seriously ill children and their families by providing a way to cope with their troubles. Starlight’s programs entertain and educate, distracting ill children from their pain in a way which makes it easier to manage their illnesses. Their network supports children in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
