Here’s something that will make FFVII more realistic. Each weapon has an encumbrance rating like in the The Elder Scrolls games. The heavier the weapon, the slower your turn comes. Congratulations! Cloud is now the slowest party member of them all!

An excellent show again. The Nintendo news was quite fun. The metaphor with cricket and game systems was very nice.

Reggie’s statements about VR, combined with the vague implications that the NX is going to somehow change the way we play games leaves me to believe that the NX is just some bullshit take on VR that’s going to try and force ‘social elements’ into it.

Re: Team Ninja: It’s only problematic if you’re not the target audience. I love my DoA girls. Though I agree they had no business going near Samus.

Best wishes to you Lusi, I hope the surgery goes smoothly and that you have a speedy recovery.

@Zoltan: Luckily, because he’s only waving a plastic megaphone, Cait Sith becomes the FASTEST party member in addition to being the BEST.

@Wolfe: Thanks! I hope so, too. I normally avoid doctors whenever possible. This policy has led to several things building up so that I am more or less in doctors’ offices constantly for the duration of this summer. :(

Just recently found this site, and I must say I enjoy your podcasts a lot. I hope you’ll bring back the book reading, it was a very nice touch!

@Dr Pill: Thanks for being a new listener and reader!

Not to fear–the book readings are coming back at the end of the summer. We’ve got a major, awesome reading lined up. Our longest ever, but (in my opinion) on course to be our best. Please look forward to it. ;)

Sure, I’d never begrudge Team Ninja fans their fanservice, but they’ve no business working with serious female characters. I’d love to know what Nintendo were thinking…

How will this work when we get to our next novel? Will you continue to read it at the beginning of the show?

I would probably participate in this playthrough as I love Castlevania games, but my TV is still packed up from my move 4 months ago. The feet for it were packed separately and were misplaced during the move and have yet to be found.

    FFVII Remake news
I called it. If you like FFVII, just play that again. They can’t take that from you.

    Reggie: VR is not fun.

    Wii U Too Expensive
I did end up getting one, and it’s been great of the handful of games, but I don’t think Nintendo can compete on it’s own anymore. They’ll need to be able to match Sony and Microsoft on the hardware game.

    criterion F-Zero declined
That could have been neat. The only F-Zero game that I played much of was Maximum Velocity on GBA and that game was pretty good.

Shenmue 10: Walk to the Pier.

    Imitanis Gaming Reading Moment
This week I played more Tragedy Looper, but I said my word about that last week.
Instead I’ll talk about a book that I read.

The Martian by Andy Weir follows Mark Watney, an astronaut stranded on Mars and attempting to survive for 4 years until he can be rescued. Think Hatchet but with fewer porcupines and more explosive decompressions.

I picked this up on a whim after hearing that it was good and when I finally did pick it up, I read it in 2 days. It was very compelling the whole way through.

I described it as The Hatchet on Mars, but it also has a lot of elements of Apollo 13 if that’s more your thing:
-Modifying random space equipment to serve a purpose it was never intended for
    -Oxygen Calculations
    -Risky Procedures

The Martian is engaging for it’s entire length, though if the occasional chemical equation calculation puts you off then it might not be for you. I can see why they chose to make this into a movie, I just don’t know if Matt Damon can pull off the gallows humor that really defines Mark Watney’s character.

If this sounds appealing then get your copy soon before they release the version with Matt Damon’s doofy mug plastered on the cover.
