TSM Episode 303: Time for Fourteen Hours of Der Ring des Nibelungen

The rainbow bridge behind leads not to Valhalla, but to the final stage of Mario Kart.

Pictured: Lusipurr has clubbed Recordsolt to death, in an effort to gain control of the Golden Ringcast.

Lusipurr listens to the entire Ring Cycle of Richard Wagner, with terrible consequences for the podcast. In a veritable data Gotterdammerung, the audio recording is accidentally deleted, leaving Lusi no option but to record a solo Christmas broadcast.

You know, if you watched that entire video of Tidus laughing whilst listening to Der Ring, there’d still be more than four hours of opera left.

Another great reading! Have you considered possibly isolating the reading corner and releasing them as a separate podcast once you are finished? It would be great to listen to it in its entirety.

    NEWS
Alaster Cook Sacked as something something ODI
I guess he should have learned to shorten his overs, given the news last week.

FFXV new Cid is a woman
I don’t see any problem with this. Cid is different in every new FF world, why not have a female Cid?

    FFXV May have worldwide launch
While I have no plans to play this, I think it’d kinda neat to see the game at the same time worldwide.

    DMC Remastered
Wasn’t this game totally panned? Why are they remaking it?

    Hatred on Steam
I’m glad that Gabe saw what was happening and stopped it. Steam almost pulled an OZ Target.

    Disgaea 5
I think I have Disgaea DS. I’d like to play more of them but I just realistically can’t at this point.

    Discontinued Amiibos
This is really frustrating. Why can’t Nintendo just follow a Skylander strategy and release plenty of all of the characters? They could then include Mario, Link, and Pikachu in every subsequent wave to keep them in stock?

    Imitanis Gaming Moment
This week I played 3 games; Machi Koro, Libertalia, and Ugg-Tect. Since I’ve covered the first two I’ll only discuss the last one here.

Ugg-Tect is a game about competing teams of cavemen attempting to build monuments. Each team will have an ‘Ugg-Tect’ and the rest will be builders. Each teams’ Ugg-Tect will draw a card depicting the structure and they are not allowed to show it to their team. The game is played in real time with the Ugg-Tect giving their builders instructions to try and complete their structure the fastest.

The Catch: The builders are not allowed to speak at all and the Ugg-Tect can only communicate in 3 ways. They can hit with their club. 1 Hit means good, 2 hits means wrong. Hitting yourself means cancel your own instruction. If they want to address a specific piece then they have to do the correct motion (ex: arms over head means red block). The final method is a series of caveman words that have pre-defined meanings (ex: Karungu = “Turn Thingy”).

Here’s the chart explaining the allowed communication. Notice that there are some key things missing like “Next to” and “middle”. The Ugg-Tect must figure out how to communicate these concepts from the existing rules.

This game is awesome. I’m terrible at it and I had a great time anyway. It’s frustrating but fun at the same time because of how ridiculous it is. It’s not embarrassing really either because everyone is participating in the same thing and if you laugh at the Ugg-Tect they can just hit you with the club. Two Clubs up!

    DiceAdmiral Travel Moment
I traveled a few hours to go snow shoeing and the weather was awful, so we didn’t. Yup.

    Final Notes
“I deleted the podcast.” Didn’t you just remark last week that it’s been a long time since you’d done this?

    Phillip Jackson’s Fanfiction… Phillip Jackson’s imagination” I’m unsure if this is intentional…

This was a interesting and relaxing experience.

And then there was a buptalk. The music was fitting for it, though.

    Continuing listening.

    Oh yeah! This:

    Before Lightning and Snow,
With a Summoner on her way,
    O’er Calm Fields we go
Laughing all the way (HA HA HA)
    Misfits and twits you’ll bring
This game should be a flop!
What misery it is to play
    This awful boring slop! Oh–

    FF Ten, FF Ten
    Lots of shit to do
    Tidus laughs and Yuna cries
I don’t care, do you? Oh–
    FF Ten, FF Ten
    Lots of shit to do
I wish I could skip these cutscenes
But that is a feature which the game developers simply did not have the time or the foresight to add.

    A month or two ago
    I thought I’d take a trip
    And soon I found myself
    Aboard an Al Bhed ship
    My character had the bends,
So it seemed by how he roared
Deep he’d dived, ere sin arrived,
    And knocked him overboard, Oh–

    FF Ten, FF Ten
    Lots of shit to do
    Tidus laughs and Yuna cries
I don’t care, do you? Oh–
    FF Ten, FF Ten
    Lots of shit to do
When Tidus speaks he is surprised
That anyone can understand him, probably because he is secretly aware of the fact that he’s only capable of spouting a whole shitload of nonsense.

    Back on solid ground
    A man with ginger hair
    Leads a team of fools
    They’re all going nowhere.
    The Summoner is in town,
    Her guardian I become
I think that I’d be honoured
If the others weren’t so dumb, Oh–

    FF Ten, FF Ten
    Lots of shit to do
    Tidus laughs and Yuna cries
I don’t care, do you? Oh–
    FF Ten, FF Ten
    Lots of shit to do
Tell me wherefore I should care
    About these gawping poos.

    Finally at Sin
    The story takes a dive
At this point it jumps the shark
    Auron is not alive,
    Tidus is a dream,
    Yuna lets him go,
The thing wraps up, it’s time for Bup,
Let’s get on with the show. Oh–

    FF Ten, FF Ten
    Lots of shit to do
    Tidus laughs and Yuna cries
I don’t care, do you? Oh–
    FF Ten, FF Ten
    Lots of shit to do
None of it is worth a damn
    And thus ends my review.

We should contract Illya and have him sing your FF Ten carol.

    As for the bup talk?
