Lusi…did you put your voice through a massive volume amp and then decrease the DB’s slightly? what was going on this podcast?

The only time it sounded normal was the Bup talk. Whatever was going on, not a fan (respectfully).

Not to worry. A temporary issue prevented him from using his normal recording mic. I suspect things will be back to normal next week.

    @Sav/Mel:

Mel’s right (!); we were on the backup computer/system this week, without access to my normal microphone or editing tools. We’ll be back to normal next week. Sorry about that!

@SN: He’s been travelling quite a lot lately; I expect something similar has claimed his time once again.

I imagine there are now horrified readers contemplating the fact that to find out what is in the podcast… they may have to listen to it!

That is so incredibly dumb. You can’t do something like this in a world market any more.

    Imitanis Gaming Moment
This week I played Angry Birds Transformers and The Maze of Games.

Angry Birds Transformers kind of bucks the traditional AB gameplay and instead has your character running left-to-right in the foreground and shooting at pig-towers in the background. I enjoy the game a lot (when it lets you play it). Rovio can nail making a mobile game handle well. Say what you want about the company, but they have the technical competence to make it work. The different characters all play differently, which is nice, but the game doesn’t let you choose who to use.
Lockdown: Ugh, this game has a lot of forced lockdowns. Once you’ve played 4 or so levels, all of the available levels will need to recharge and you can no longer play the game. When the levels become available again, the game decides which character you can play that level as, which sucks, because there are some characters that I’ve unlocked that I especially don’t care for. Occasionally it is nice to be punted from the game because I really should be doing something else, but I do keep coming back to it, so that speaks for something.

The Maze Of Games is a puzzle novel. There is a story which follows a psudeo-choose-your-own-adventure style, except that you must solve puzzles to know where to go. I only completed the very first puzzle which features 13 spinning dials of letters to try and make the entire thing spell out words. Since the picture of the puzzle on the page does not allow you to actually spin dials and creating paper ones would be tedious and difficult to use, I created a program to allow me to spin dials and view the results. This allowed me to solve the problem pretty rapidly. Sometimes I really love being able to write programs as I can use that skill to help solve all sorts of annoyances or problems in day to day life. I can’t comment on the overall quality of the puzzles yet, having only solved the one, but there are 50 or so in the book so I’ll be busy for quite a while. So far, so fun and I doubt I’ll be able to program my way out of most of these puzzles.

I also played Vagrant Story for a little bit, but I’ll cover any of that in the feature thread.

    Imitanis? Travel Moment
As suspected I spent a good deal of time travelling early this week. I spent one evening traveling up to an improv comedy show in a nearby town and another night driving my fiancé to her home county to file her ballot (democracy ftw).
No further literature was partaken of.

    Final Notes
The podcast is running much more smoothly lately. I appreciate that. Good work LusiCats.

hmm, I tried to use the ” tag to get my links underlined, but it didn’t work and I don’t see anything on the bottom that looks like it does underlining.

I think underline is disabled in comments for wordpress reasons. Not to worry: I’ll be fixing link colours this weekend, so that will sort that problem out.

I will provide a more fulsome comment later when I’m not working…!

    @DiceAdmiral:
    Been a long night?
On Thursday I ended up working until about 03:30, at which point I packed it in. On Friday, I forgot, between Blizzcon and more work.
When, on the podcast, I mention how incredibly busy I am, that is not an exaggeration. It is an understatement.

That is so incredibly dumb. You can’t do something like this in a world market any more.
Au contraire: Nintendo most certainly can!

“The audio quality would go down”[Referencing moving to Australia] Are you in Aus this week Lusi? What’s with the echo-y sound from your end?
As indicated in a couple previous comments, we were using the backup system, and didn’t have access to my normal microphone or computer.

“I actually do know what I’m talking about.” -Lusi, implying that this is not typically the case.
Actually just correcting Mel, who typically thinks that he knows more than me about everything, including things in which I hold several degrees and which are my career! I teach ~60 college-level students poetry every semester. I have a pretty good idea by now of how sophisticated the average person’s reading of poetry is.
There’s a reason those Chicken Soup for the Soul books are bestsellers.

“What’s even coming for 3DS” Well, they just announced Majora’s Mask 3D: Trailer There’s also Code Name Steam coming out next year, but we don’t know that much about that yet.
A remake and a nonce (until there’s data), so nothing. Nintendo is putting all of its force behind the WiiU at the moment, because they CANNOT do two things at once.

Lusi’s sound is much better here.
Recorded the following day on the master system.

I’m still listening with rapt attention.
I’m glad of it. Hopefully some of our other listeners will let us know what they think. It is different: is it better, worse, equivalent? Should we stick to humour/satire?

Once you’ve played 4 or so levels, all of the available levels will need to recharge and you can no longer play the game. When the levels become available again, the game decides which character you can play that level as, which sucks, because there are some characters that I’ve unlocked that I especially don’t care for.
What a load of arse. Garbage design.

The Maze Of Games is a puzzle novel. There is a story which follows a psudeo-choose-your-own-adventure style, except that you must solve puzzles to know where to go.
You have probably heard of The 7th Guest and The 11th Hour already, but if you have not, you should pick them up on Steam or iOS.

The podcast is running much more smoothly lately.
When I have access to the main computer, at least!

I have heard of those. The main difference here is that The Maze of Games is literally a book. It’s hard cover.

@DiceAdmiral: When you wrote, ‘puzzle novel’, I assumed this meant a puzzle game which had the frame setting of being a novel. I am surprised that it is an actual hardcover text.
