On the tail of Professor Layton’s latest adventure, Konami announced on December 20th, 2011 that its own puzzle solving adventure game is now available exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS. Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights follows the titular doctor and his assistant, Sophie in 19th century Paris on a quest to discover Louis XIV’s hidden treasures.
Combining adventure and puzzle elements, Doctor Lautrec seeks to send players through an engaging story through the eyes of the eccentric archeologist hero. Lautrec and Sophie find their simple excavation mission is maybe not so simple when they run into Jacques-Mario Vidocq and his goons who are after the same treasures.
The core feature of Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights is going to be the many different puzzles players encounter along the journey. Taking advantage of the Nintendo 3DS, players will experience a unique kind of puzzle solving gameplay unlike any previous title. Some of the puzzles might require good memorization skills, while others will challenge the player’s spatial relationships or possibly discerning repetitive objects within a picture. Developed with the intention of bringing out your inner detective, the puzzles will become ever more difficult with each success.
Noriaki Okamura, known for his work on Zone of the Enders, is the game’s director. He has credited the Professor Layton series as an inspiration as his title shares similar aesthetics and gameplay to the popular Level-5 franchise.
Doctor Lautrec and the Forgetten Knights makes use of the handheld’s stereoscopic three-dimensional graphics and is available now on store shelves worldwide.
