My Norende is overrun with level 99 monsters, though. That’s all I seem to get, I assume because I’m playing the game later than everyone else, but clearing it at endgame is something to look forward to. Plus all those blue chests, and I have a few mediocre-sounding jobs to go back and grab, although I am surprised at how useful things like the Merchant’s Pay to Play is with a Ranger in your party.

@Mel: They’re definitely not for everyone. I struggle even calling them “games” in any strict sense, but I enjoy them regardless because I am drawn to story telling. They remind me of Choose Your Own Adventure books, which were like dessert for dinner to my child self.

@SiliconNooB: That may very well end up being the case, but I have been fooled before. After cooling off it for a few days and looking back, I realize I completely forgot to mention how I was rather turned off by the way Max’s almost casual acceptance about suddenly being able to reverse time was handled. Save for one short moment at the end of the episode, she just takes a “k, now this is happening” approach. We’ll see. I have a feeling it might end up like the later seasons of Lost, where the potential was there and I wanted so badly for it to be good, but the writers just didn’t have the chops for it.

I played Walking Dead Season 1 and, unfairly, I have now associated my discomfort at the time with going back to playing that game. It’s odd how associations like that occur, but they do.

It also doesn’t help that I’m not particularly thrilled by the characters or the gameplay (or lack thereof).

YES. Awful. Awful, awful, awful.

“Typically, nothing else is indicated, save for an ominous message stating “this action will have consequences.”
That’s not heavy-handed at all. FORESHADOWING, GUYS. WE’RE FORESHADOWING. HEY! FORESHADOWING GOING ON RIGHT HERE!

“The second time around, I managed to get short spurts of visuals before they would freeze at crucial moments, considering I let poor Asher get skewered three times before the game would let me see what button I was supposed to press to prevent sharp metal things from entering his chest.”
A novel approach to adding challenge which more and more companies are lately employing.

“In the meantime, if anyone needs me, I will be huddled under a warm blanket with Bravely Default to distract me from this bone-biting Midwestern Winter chill.”
Now there’s a game that actually deserves your attention.
