“Where’s Zoltan when you need him?”
In Japan, duh!

“Sunset Tonight: Sometime”
And we were right. LusiNews. News on which you can depend.

“Is Cricket news back for good?”

:)

“I don’t think I’ve played any of Mr. Schafer’s games, and at this point I’d be embarassed to.”
Best indictment of Schafer et al.

“They released a MMZ collection for DS a few years ago. I got a little ways into the first one, found it a bit confusing, stopped and never went back.”
I’ve played them all. The first two are the best, and the rest are very ‘meh’.

“For some reason I have the Almond Joy/Mounds song stuck in my head now. “Sometimes you rage about the nuts. Sometimes you don’t””
THIS IS PERFECT.

“Microsft Bitcoin: This story just leaves me blah. Something I don’t care about is now accepted by something I don’t use.”
I laughed at this.

“Lestat is at his worst and best here. His gleeful torture and then seemingly genuine concern for Louie is an interesting dichotomy.”
Is it genuine? Or just another act? So realistic as a character.

“This game is about a prince who, along with his trusted advisors, attempts to free his kingdom from a corrupt sorceress.”
King’s Quest, the board game. With THE SECRET OF NIMH elements (or THE RESCUERS).

“Remember how last week I mentioned that I was traveling to the symphony? This is partially accurate. I did travel, but the show that I attended was not at all a symphony. It was a single operatic soprano singing her favorite songs over a quintet. I’m not a huge fan of operatic style but may have not left at intermission had she not also been a music teacher who brought her students on stage to sing with her.
It turns out that I’d been duped into what was essentially a glorified Christmas concert/fund-raiser for the local schools’ music departments. I’m not a parent and therefore not genetically pressured to be irrationally proud of any children. It was terrible. They lined all of the children on stage and every single one of them told us how awful their life would be without music. I’m a supporter of music education, but the insufferablness of the whole thing made me want to anti-donate.”

That sounds rotten. I suppose you can console yourself with the fact that, however absurd the whole thing was, the intentions were at least in the right place (albeit enacted in a hamfisted and bonkers fashion).

For my part, I attend the Opera and Symphony seasonally. Front row. Gounod’s Faust next spring. I’m over the moon. HAPPY CHRISTMAS.

“She’s going straight to hell when she dies. Happy Christmas!”

“Greetings!

I am a butt! Don’t listen to me, I’m just spouting nonsense most of the time! Blah blah blah, something British, blah blah, tea and cricket, blah, Final Fantasy 7!”

I had to pay upon receipt of this message since no one does telegrams anymore. It was very expensive.

Well, I had little time to do much gaming lately. I mostly popped in quickies like Diablo 3, Smash, Trackmania, and an old edition of CoD to play in my hour or two between work and sleep. On the agenda is still Dragon Age, Treasure Tracker, possibly look into Suikoden 2.

FF7 Coming to PS4 (as port of PC version)
I only ever played FF7 long enough to first meet Aeris and it was on the PC version. It doesn’t really strike me as something I’d like to go back to play again. I guess I don’t have the nostalgia for it.

Tim Schafer courts Sony for $$ that he’ll misuse
I don’t think I’ve played any of Mr. Schafer’s games, and at this point I’d be embarassed to.

710,000 Amiibos sold in US
I don’t have Smash U yet, and I still almost bought a few of these. They’re pretty neat lookin, random stands aside. I have a feeling I’d regret getting more than 1 or 2 though as they’re essentially ‘nerd Hummels’.

Mega Man Zero Coming to Wii U VC
They released a MMZ collection for DS a few years ago. I got a little ways into the first one, found it a bit confusing, stopped and never went back.

Nut Rage Lady
For some reason I have the Almond Joy/Mounds song stuck in my head now.

Imitanis Gaming Moment
Back to board games this week.
Mice And Mystics was on the table this week. This game is about a prince who, along with his trusted advisors, attempts to free his kingdom from a corrupt sorceress. The catch is that he’s imprisoned before he can enact his plan and the group must transform into mice in order to escape from the cells. Players will take on traditional fantasy roles (leader, healer, thief, wizard, warrior) as portrayed by mice and fight against enemies such as rats and centipedes as they attempt to save the land while being tiny.

Mechanically, the game is a fairly simple dungeon crawl with game-controlled enemies. Players can move and take one action (attack, search for items, special action) and must kill all enemies before moving to the next room. The twist is that there is a story happening here. When I said before that the game is about the prince and his companions I was not exaggerating. There are 2 pages of backstory before you start and each room comes with a paragraph or so continuing the plot. The story is 10 chapters with a few sidequests and is designed such that a chapter takes an hour and change to play. This doesn’t mean however that the game will be done in 10 hours. Players can loose a chapter if they move too slowly and are captured by the villains. This will force the players to restart the chapter from the beginning.

In the session that we played I took the warrior role (a large brown mouse with a huge hammer) and did a fantastic job crushing the massive centipedes that were attacking us. A typical attack is 2 dice and my special ability would let me roll 5, which made me the MVP of the team. Unfortunately, we had a few too many player ‘deaths’ (in quotes because they respawn once a room is clear. It’s called “Captured” in the manual) and we ran out of time, losing us the chapter. The game is pretty straight forward once you learn the initial rules and I’m looking forward to playing it again in hopes that we can best the first chapter now that we’re more experienced.

DiceAdmiral Travel Moment

My comment was about changing the order, because the FFX one is tremendous.

If you’re going to sing my poetical review, sonny, you’d better sing it right: I demand a version sung in the gospel style to the tune of Go, Tell It on the Mountain. NOTHING ELSE WILL SUFFICE.

@Ethos: It was one of my better moments!

@Java: If you buy a good headset for your phone, it should solve that problem. We’ve had Imitanis on via phone and it’s been all right.

If you move the Christmas Song until the last week, it will hop over Christmas, so my suggestion is to recite it next week.
Do you want a cover of “Use Stickers To Attack Now” in a more folky version like “Go Tell It…”, or would a song in any genre but to that tune and rhythym be sufficient? [P.S. I loved the coda.]

We’ll see!
