I just came back from the Ronso reserve and they said that despite the perpetuation of some harmful stereotypes like stunted speech, FFX is actually more respectful than most when it comes to their culture.

I was also really surprised at how much I’ve been enjoying Guacamelee. I went in thinking it was going to be another Metroid or Castlevania game, but was happily surprised.

It’s very true that a lot of modern games only take from certain cultural backgrounds, like High Fantasy’s medival Europe for most RPGs or US modern or near future military ops for shooters. With the US and Japan still making up a large portion of AAA development I guess it’s little surprise their cultural interests are the ones most reflected.

Guacamelee is exceptional. It’s pure fun, which is what a game should deliver. It also has the benefit of being extraordinarily well-made and highly-polished.
