I have also worried about VR headsets forcing a First Person perspective as everyone’s going to be rushing to make the experience as “immersive” as possible when that perspective is not always ideal. An increase in silent protagonists would probably also go hand in hand with that push.

It just comes down to convenience. If I have to put something on to watch a movie or play a game, and if it’s going to cover my entire vision, then it’s immediately less convenient. God forbid I want to check my phone, or take a sip of my drink or talk to another HUMAN in the ROOM without being rude, I’d have to pause and remove the contraption I’ve got strapped to my head. No thanks.

First, I’ve heard of the Rift causing nausea in a fair amount of the people who have used it. Secondly, the immersion it hopes to create will force games to become first person perspective. I don’t know if I want to play every game in first person. Third, it will turn the characters into silent protagonists, if it hopes to truly “take you into the world”. Not that doing so is a bad thing, I like those games sometimes, but I wouldn’t enjoy every single game I played turning into a first person perspective with a second person narrative. Seems kind of limiting in terms of storytelling.

Nintendo’s Biometrics will tell you precisely what kind of a pain in the neck it gives, and what the result in terms of HAPPINESS QUOTIENT is.

Even if both of those devices were going to be reasonably priced (I doubt it) I wouldn’t bother, either. Perhaps if someone GAVE me one…
