I don’t know enough about APIs or Direct X to know how likely a software only move from X11.1 to X12 is and I’m not really sure how different one version is from the other. Maybe whatever version of X12 the Xbone gets will be a different version than what PCs will get/have already? I dunno, I play PC games a lot and I appreciate how the hardware is more capable (or can be), but I prefer PC games because of the utility of playing games on a multifunctional device at my desk rather than at my TV where I can only do that one thing. IMO, graphics are all icing… within reason, I suppose.

That being said, I would expect that the process of reverse engineering DX12 would be a bit easier since both consoles utilize similar GPU architecture.

As for the now confirmed memory allocation for the PS4 (and Xbone), I wonder if Naughty Dog (who probably had to optimize the shit out of the Lost of Us to get it to run on the PS3) saw that 5gb of RAM was available and pissed themselves at the prospect of not having to optimize nearly as much. If 5gb ends up being the max for both consoles’ lifespans, developers will learn to manage.
