From 6 March, any person with PKMN Black or White can choose to participate in The Great PKMN Hunt 2011. The person with the most valid trades completed before our Summer of Suikoden playthrough (begins 5 June) will win a brand new, full price (up to $60 US) game of their choice from Amazon or Steam! This contest is open to Lusipurr.com staff members and guests, but all trades must be set up using the comment system.

NOTE: You must have legitimately caught the PKMN you are trading in an English copy of the game. Trading PKMN acquired from other players, other versions, or which you have cheated to obtain, will result in disqualification.

How To Play:
1 – Each week, Lusipurr will ask for a random type of PKMN. If you have a PKMN of that type from PKMN Black or White, and can trade with him to fulfill his request, post a comment on this post saying what PKMN you would like to trade him. You may only post one trade offer at a time, and only one trade offer per day; you may only trade once per day. Multiple submissions above this one-per-day rule will be deleted. For the purposes of this contest, the new day begins at 00:00 US Eastern Time.

2Lusipurr will attempt to trade with people for PKMN on a first-comment, first-traded basis. If that attempt fails, he will move on to the next person offering that PKMN, and so on, until the trade for that PKMN is successful. Therefore, you may use your trade offer to propose a trade which someone else is already offering, but you will only be allowed to make that trade if the previous offers fail, because…

3 – When a trade is successful, the person who made the trade will receive one point. Thereafter, no one can trade that PKMN to Lusipurr for the rest of that trading week. Running totals are posted at the bottom of this thread.

All participants will have their names and scores read on the Megaphones Ahoy! Podcast, and there will be a number of secondary prizes awarded, including a guest spot on the podcast, as well! Even the smallest contribution is worthwhile. Get out there and catch some PKMN!

Remember, you will need to add Lusipurr to your Pal Pad, and he will need to add you to his own, so be sure to provide your information the first time you comment. Lusipurr’s PKMN name is Lusi and his friend code is 3095 6500 7534.

    Hoo-boy! Excitment! Smugleaf!

  2. DanChiSao says:

Good luck everyone! I probably don’t have much of a chance to defend my title thanks to grad school, but we’ll see!

  3. Blitzmage says:

Note: The Speed Gamers are doing a catch ‘em all marathon from friday to saturday idk if they have the new pokemon in this catch ‘em all but might be cool to check out

  4. Deimosion says:

I don’t know if I’ll have much Wi-Fi access, but if I do, then I’ll BE THERE.

  5. RootBeerKing says:

Count me in! I’m planning to pick up Black or White later on today!

  6. Lusipurr says:

This first week will be an open week, where everyone has a chance to see the rules and start thinking ahead. Next week, at midnight on Sunday, the first type will be announced here. Then, individual offers can be made.

The rules will be very strictly adhered to. If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask them here in the thread.

At the moment, I am considering having you trade to my copy of SoulSilver so that we can get the contest started sooner, because, in White, it may take a while until I can get to a point where I 1) can trade at all, and 2) have enough funding for the loads of pokeballs I’ll need for trading fodder.

If nothing else, you can feel free to discuss the games here, too, since this is effectively a playthrough thread as well!

  7. Ethos says:

So. Addicted. I can’t honestly say if you’re able to trade/have a ton of Pokéballs soon into the game or not. I can trade and have 50 Pokéballs at my disposal, but I played near 10 hours of the game yesterday. Somehow.

    Smugleaf!

  8. DanChiSao says:

I genuinely don’t know the answer to this one: will the new black and white pokemon trade backwards to the older games?

So far I’m liking the improvements graphically that they’ve made, but it’s definitely not earth shattering. I am certainly enjoying it though.

  9. Lusipurr says:

    @Dan: Yes, they will. No.

I like to think that each PKMN game just takes what the previous games had, and polishes it even further. The idea is eventually reach some sort of Pokenirvana, where the game is a perfect collect-em-all experience.

That said, I feel that this particular version seems to have ‘polished’ more than usual iterations. It feels absolutely amazing. Everything seems so sharp!

  10. Ethos says:

Yeah, it’s truly one of the better versions. At least so far.

  11. Lusipurr says:

    Heads-up!

You’ll have to trade from your copy of B/W to my copy of B/W. As with previous games, you can’t trade to other versions until after you complete the main story and obtain the National Pokedex.

So it looks like we’ll have a short delay until I can receive trades, which should be soon!

  12. Reetin says:

Yay, going to get Pokemon black today after school, should be up and playing it all night after Levequests with Lusipurr.

  13. Ethos says:

Hrm, despite all the great tweaks for the better (the BEST being the ability to trade FROM ANYWHERE – not just the Pokémon Centre – and being able to trade from the PC boxes), there are a few confusing backsteps.

    1. The ability to always be wearing the running shoes. It’s a small thing, yes, but in SoulSilver, you could tap the shoes on and off so that you didn’t have to hold down B to run. It was nice.

    2. The ability to use the left shoulder button as an alternate for the “A” button. I could eat with one hand and play Pokémon with the other. It was nice.

Those MINOR things aside, this truly is shaping up to be my favourite entry since Gold/Silver. I’m only 4 badges in though, so we’ll see.

  14. Lusipurr says:

Both of those issues annoy. I wonder why they did that?

  15. Ethos says:

I truly can’t tell why they did it. There also doesn’t seem to be a visual icon for when a Pokémon in the boxes is holding an item. That used to be the case, didn’t it? It was nice.

  16. Lusipurr says:

@Ethos: Nope, not in Diamond/Pearl or SoulSilver/HeartGold, at least. The only way to tell whether an PKMN in a box was holding an item (or, as I recall, in ANY place) was to look at its status screen or choose to give it an item or take an item from the relevant menu.

  17. Ethos says:

Oh, okay. I’m just making up things that WOULD be convenient now.

  18. Lusipurr says:

@Ethos: Added you! My friend code (and yours) are in the post!

If you are participating, comment with your rriend code or there will be no trading!

First type to be announced on Sunday!

  19. Ethos says:

    Added back. Smmmmuuugggleaf!

  20. Lusipurr says:

I hope other people are going to participate! So far, the only entrant is Ethos! Where are your PKMN friend codes, ladies and gents?

  21. Lusipurr says:

p.s. Also remember to sign up for the Global Link system. It opens on 30 March, but you can create an account and do some stuff already: http://www.pokemon-gl.com

  22. Deimosion says:

    Buying it today!

  23. RootBeerKing says:

I have the game and I’m almost at the second gym(would have been further but I had to restart until I had all the starter pokemon). The darker grass containing two wild pokemon is a great new addition to the game.

I’m going to participate, but I’m still in GA and the DS can’t connect to the hotel wifi, so I’m going to have to wait until I get back home to get my Friend Code…

  24. DanChiSao says:

My friend code is 3009 7397 5062. And his name is Toby.

And if you guys haven’t done so already, don’t forget to download the Liberty Pass so you can get Victini.

  25. Lusipurr says:

@Dan: Are you certain his name is not actually KUNTA KINTE?

Thanks for reminding everyone about the Liberty Pass. I completely forgot to mention it!
