Hello all my loyal fans and welcome to the glorious return of NATE LILES! Is this perhaps the greatest post in Lusipurr history? It is too early to tell, but I am going to go with: yes. I did this post last year and it seemed to get a good response, so I am doing it again. Here I am listing my ten favorite games from 2010 in no particular order. In the comments below I would like all of my loyal followers and peons to list what their ten favorite games were of the last year. Here we go!
1. Costume Quest - What is not to love about a game where one plays as children dressed up for Halloween who must fight in epic turn-based battles in order to save their twin from evil candy-stealing goblins? Oh, and did I mention that it was created by the hilarious Tim Schafer of Psychonauts and Day of the Tentacle fame? Also, it is only like $15!
2. Mass Effect 2 – This game fixed what was wrong with its predecessor and then some. Adding new characters, and bringing back some old ones, with their own specific missions helped the player become attached to them. Which made the decisions in the final battle even harder. Pile that on top of some of the best graphics of least year, and you got yourself a good game!
3. Fallout: New Vegas – Longtime readers of the site will know that I am a huge Fallout fan. I think I logged around 140 hours into one of my characters in Fallout 3, and New Vegas is looking to already top that. Obsidian took what was already an amazing game and made it even better by adding more customization to the player’s characters, modding of weapons, and more control over companions. To top it all off they even added a difficulty in which the player must pay attention to their character’s eating, drinking, and hydration to stay alive in the Mojave Wasteland.
4. Deathspank – First off, the name alone should make anyone fall in love with this game. Second, it is a great action-RPG designed by Ron Gilbert, the genius behind the Monkey Island series. Third, he’s spanking death! That’s hilarious! Buy an XBox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC for this game.
5. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood – Even though Assassin’s Creed II was an amazing game, I still had my doubts about its sequel as it came out quickly. All my doubts were quelled when the game was released. The addition of new weapons and the ability to call groups of assassins to help in missions were great additions. The game adds to the already mysterious storyline of the series, while answering some questions and adding even more.
6. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game – While the movie was amazing, the game was even better. Perfectly suited for a side-scrolling beat up game, it focused more on the storyline of the comic over the movie. With up to four player co-op and a hidden zombie level, this game is totally worth its price of $10. The only thing it is missing is online play.
7. God of War III – This game starts out epic and does not let up. With amazing graphics and a great end to Kratos’ story, it instantly was added to my top ten. Plus, if you want to see some amazing digital boobies, just wait until the sex minigame that is so iconic of the series!
8. Red Dead Redemption – If I were to have a game of the year, this would most likely be it. Tight controls, amazing graphics, and an engaging storyline are just some of the great things about this game. The addition of great multiplayer with a level up system makes the game even better. I did not think Rockstar could top this title until they released the Undead Nightmare expansion pack, in which the player just fight a zombie outbreak in the old west.
9. Alan Wake – This game instantly shot to my top ten list once I started playing it. Very much based off the David Lynch television series Twin Peaks, one of my favorite shows ever, the game had a mysterious storyline which is not fully explained even after the two expansions. The innovative light-based fights were a lot of fun, although it did get repetitive fighting the same shadow creatures over and over. However, this did not take away from the fun experience of the game.
10. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 – While the games in the Lego series have always been fun, this addition to the series is by far the best. With tons of playable characters and magic spells to use, there is a ton of re playability to this game. Plus, it is always fun to blow up a Lego Voldemort.
