I do not feel like anything I have an opinion on is important enough to be heard by hundreds/thousands/millions, which is why, over the past year or so, I have decided to no longer pursue the dream I had of writing professionally (not to suggest that writing on Lusipurr.com is not professional by any means). This goes against the idea I had that when I died, millions would mourn my death. Much soul searching was done and, without getting (too) philosophical here, it was realized that I much prefer engaging in conversations in small groups.
Here are some things I would write about had I more to say on the subject, so let us talk about them in the comments:
Activision angers me. We have all heard the stories and read the news about their current legal woes (pop-rockers, No Doubt, have a suit they filed against Activision for wrongfully using their likenesses in Band Hero that has been given a green light to proceed) and their dumb moves (the Infinity Ward firings and consequent loss of employees no doubt (ugh) due to Bobby Kotick’s stupidity). Outside of those big stories, here is a company that publicly stated they would charge more for games if it was up to them; stated around the same time that (1) the $120 Tony Hawk Ride and $100 DJ Hero were to be released to an uncaring public because of the (2) “annualization” of their franchises. (I am happy to that Safari does not recognize the word “annualization” as being spelled correctly because that would only make it okay for Activision to have ever used it in the first place) (also, let’s give it up for EA, stating that Activision “shot their race horse”)
Lusipurr wrongfully hates Peter Molyneux. I fear I will never have the opportunity to use what I am about to write as a headline, so if you have anything you would like to say about the man (Petey, not Lusi), now is a good time to do it, just file it under Peter Molynews.
Other phones, Ahoy! We all listen to the Megaphones Ahoy! Podcast – we cannot spell “semaphore” without “MAP,” after all – but are there other ‘casts you guys (and gals?!) listen to? I like that on the IGN podcasts the staff do not sound like pretentious douches like the 1uppers sometimes do, but I listen to most of both sites podcasts. I used to listen to the GoNintendo Webisodes, but became bored with them. Kotaku’s radio show styled podcast suffered unlistenable audio quality for a while, so I stopped and then they joined the CBS Radio Group (does anybody know if they have become listenable since then?). I really like the old CGW/GFW Radio podcast crew (Jeff Green, Robert Ashley, Shawn Elliott) and have followed them to their new podcasting homes (Out Of The Game Podcast, EA Games podcast, A Life Well Wasted (is amazing), and the recent Irrational Behavior podcast) and I have enjoyed these quite a bit.
I was going to mention non-gaming podcasts here, but decided to keep it focused on games.
…
There was something else I was going to bring up, but I had to switch around my laundry causing me to lose my train of thought. Maybe if I think of it, that will be my fodder for next week’s post. Until then, let’s have dialogue!
WRONG! Molyneux is a PLAGUE!
Well-said! Peter Molyneux should not be allowed to make games! His pre-game comments are lies, and then the games he releases are travesties–notwithstanding the conspicuous absence of all the promised futurism!
That he is a plague is Molynews to me!
That he tells lies is kind of the man’s charm.
Except that people spend money and have hopes based on his lies, and then he takes their money and leaves them swindled.
That’s not charm. He’s just the modern incarnation of a Quack selling snake oil sanatives.
Fable: The Lost Chapters was a good game, the XBox’s answer to the cutesification of Zelda, and why we can’t have nice things from Nintendo anymore. Molyneux, on the other hand, saw it as the prophetic foresaging of a revolution in that you could be (comically) good or bad.
Morality systems in scripted games are meaningless; when your choices are “lawful good” and “chaotic evil” you aren’t presented any truly difficult ethical choices. If your ethical choices are “kill hooker for her money” and “burn village just cuz” then all you’re doing is allowing impotent fanboys to live out their darker fantasies.
Molyneux feeds this delusion; in fact, I am come into possession of certain ancient documents from the Libraries of Leng that indicate that Molyneux is a phantaspire, a vampire that feeds upon the diseased fantasies of nerds.
molineux should do the ff7 remake, after lusippur bashing my precious legend of the dragoon. i shall have my revenge.
Shall we just relisten to the RPGCast where all Molyneux and Fable related issues were addressed?
http://www.rpgamer.com/rpgcast/rpgcast_archive.html
I still listen to RPGCast, and if this week’s podcast was anything to go by, they’re still going strong, even without Lusipurr. Goes Up On Monday! (I think.)
I listen to the Fanboys Lunchcast, Some Other Podcast, Player One Podcast, and (because I need to fill time) the RPGCast. RPGCast lost most of their funny when a few key employees left, though Chris’s Governator impersonation was hilarious. He needs to do that more.
Library of Leng!
There is no limit to size of your hand. If a card forces you to discard, you may choose to discard to top of your library rather than to graveyard. If discard is random, you may look at card before deciding where to discard it.
Phantaspire may be the best neologism our site has ever had.
@kenjuju – now THAT shit was the best podcast ever. hey Lusi, didn’t you say that Curmudgeon’s Corner might be coming back? what happened to that? your first one could be about how NATE LILES crushed all your dreams.
-fuck Molyneux. anyone with an x in their name, let alone a silent one, can’t be trusted. even Xemnas had a pronounceable x. And yes, I’m saying Molyneux is more evil than Organization XIII. such it.
-I’ve been listening to the Rooster Teeth (Red vs Blue, Achievement Hunter) podacst. Episode 56 was particularly good, they had their new hire on, Monty Oum (Dead Fantasy, Haloid), and they had lots of funny anecdotes.
Into the score is a nice podcast were the host analyzes video game music. he’s done Final Fantasy Tactics, Crisis Core, God of War, and others. he doesn’t update with an type of reliability though.
I also listen to the FFXIV Core podcast though I’m not sure how many people that would interest. their not the best (lots of dead air) but they’re learning quick enough.
I also (try to) listen to a japanese podcast to help me with the language. if anyone gives a damn tell me and I’ll put up a link.
I used to listen to the Penny Arcade and Aksys Games podcasts but those stopped…
*suck it* goddammit…
Peter M. seems like the schitzo kid from Grandma’s Boy.
Happy 420 everyone! Tnx for the entertainment!
I think you guys have covered all the gaming podcasts I listen to already, but as far as non gaming podcasts, I listen to TWiT, SModcast (Kevin Smith’s podcast), and the Linux Action Show on and off (depends on how busy I am at work for a particular week :F). Also, I have podcasts of episodes of various TV shows I watch so I can catch up on them on the train, but I don’t think those really count :F.
RE Molyneux: This will sound like a joke, but I’m semi serious. If you just accept from the beginning that nothing he says can ever be trusted, he seems much less evil. He’s still a bum, but more the comical harmless kind that dances for nickels than the kind that’ll take a piss in your drink when you’re not looking.
@Breaka: Monty Oum’s stuff is awesome. What’s he doing w/ the Rooster Teeth guys?
Yeah, Erij. IGN Podcasts are the only podcasts I listen to other than MAP. Gamescoop/Beyond/TRL/NVC
@darth – in the most recent Red vs Blue you can already see his work. imagine rooster teeth’s writing with Monty’s fighting and you get the idea. He’s also still working on the dead fantasies and has more time to work on them now that his job is making them now.
I listen to several podcasts:
Gaming: Megaphones Ahoy!, Drunken Gamers, Giant Bombcast, Playerone Podcast, and Retronauts (1up). (RPGCast isn’t listenable anymore. 105 Minutes talking about how to order games on PSN when FF13 came out…)
FFXI (gaming, also?): Pet Food Alpha, Limit Break Radio (sometimes)
Other: A Life Well Wasted (sort of also gaming related, VERY high production values), and the Tech Report podcast.
Peter Molyneux is the JRPG of Western RPGs. Also, he’s kind of a twat I’d like to hit with a brick made of poo.
@Darth – that’s true but you must admit it’s far more entertaining to treat him like Stalin reincarnated.
@evilpaul – …did you just associate JRPGs with Molyneux? cause if so we have to do battle.
