Square Enix announced on 20th December, 2011 that the Nintendo 3DS exclusive, Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] will be released in the North American and European territories. Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] will be the second game to be set after the PlayStation 2 action RPG Kingdom Hearts 2 and will primarily follow series protagonists Sora and Riku as they take the “Mark of Mastery” test to become full fledged Keyblade Masters. During their test they will be faced against the Dream Eaters, although not all Dream Eaters are bad some will be willing to help out the player as they battle through the test grounds of Sleeping Woods.

“With the tenth anniversary of the series on the horizon, the current Kingdom Hearts saga is approaching its climactic conclusion. The story of this game will serve as the opening chapter of the final conflict, and, as always, will be full of surprises. In order to best implement this element of surprise and discover new realms of possibility, we have chosen Nintendo 3DS as our platform. With its revolutionary new game system, this title will not only be a bold, exhilarating tale of adventure, but also a first look into the future form of the Kingdom Hearts series,” said Tetsuya Nomura, director of Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance].

A release window of 2012 has been given but no further information beyond that is given for the American/European release dates. In Japan the game will be released sometime in March 2012.

On behalf of the Lusipurr.com staff I would like to take this opportunity to say DUH!

Also, Nomura has said in the lead-up to every one of his KH spin-off that it will offer players a glimpse at KH3 – I don’t know that I believe him. :/

how many people will this convince to buy a 3ds I suppose is the question. I know that Kingdom Hearts has one of the most oddly hardcore followings I’ve witnessed in recent gaming history. While most of these fans are adolescents, I’m sure most of them would try to convince their parents to buy a system just for this game.

I don’t know, you had three of the most hardcore fans of the series in Julian, Oliver, and I. But the incessant portable versions and remakes have tried out our interest. It will be interesting to see how this one sells…

Don’t forget me, Ethos! I’ve been there practically since day one!

That said, the last game in the series that I’ve played was Days. I’m still interested in the games, just not as much as I used to be. When I eventually do get a 3DS, I’ll pick up DDD, but I won’t buy one just for that.

This series seriously needs to be stripped of all the convoluted nonsense and go back to the simple charm of KH1 – Nomura has had his shot at expanding the universe and it hasn’t really panned out ..

    And BbS was fucking TERRIBLE!

    BbS was atrocious!

I didn’t think that the Star Wars prequel trilogy could get any worse than the piffle that Lucas created, but Nomura proved me wrong! So much worse!

I’ll buy a 3DS when they come out with a Pokemon game for it, and when I do, I’ll pick this one up as well, probably.

You should be more specific, there is a Pokemon game on 3DS, it just isn’t a proper one.
