DC fanboys need to ready their batarangs, because Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment have begun releasing registration codes for the beta release of Gotham City Imposters. With the release of a new video and screenshots for the game, developers have announced that a limited console beta for the game is expected to go live soon.

Gotham City Imposters is an upcoming multiplayer only first person shooter set in the same universe as DC comic’s Batman. The game is being developed by Monolith Productions and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and will be released on the Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and on Windows. In Gotham City Imposters, players will choose between two teams and try to kill each other. One team is dressed in Batman costumes, while the other is wearing Joker attire.

Gotham City Imposters will be playable by up to 8 players at a time. Players will be able to customize their costume, which gadgets they use and many other aspects of the game. In addition to the standard guns and knives, players will also have access to a plethora of gadgets, ranging from rollerskates and glider wings to grappling hooks and explosives. All of the weapons are “custom made”, with such innovations as explosives in the shape of a jack-in-the-box, and a rocket launcher constructed out of PVC pipe. Game modes include a capture the flag style game called “Psychological warfare”, where one team tries to get a battery and guard it long enough to power a machine that will brainwash the opposing team.

Beta codes for Gotham City Imposters are being released on the game’s official website, and the full release of the game is scheduled for January 10, 2012. Catch one before they run out!

It’s good to hear about this game again, I was afraid it had already flopped or been canceled.
